Library Report (2015-16)

Fr. Agnel College library is fully computerized, open access & bar-coded library. The library has more than 20,000 books, 85 journals & periodicals, maps, cds, photographs, newspaper clippings and other documents. The library has conducted various programmes for the library users.

Library Orientation for New User’s

The library orientation was conducted for new library users on 16th June 2015. The College Library Mr. Milind Mhamal visited all the first year classes and gave brief information about the library and its usage.

Library Cards & Book Bank

All the students of the College were issued Library Membership Cards for library usage within a week. Beside regular library cards, the students were issued Scholar Cards and Social Cards; the scholar cards are issued to the students who have scored 60% and above marks in their previous examinations, the social cards are given to the students belonging to SC/ST & OBC class students. 143 students got the benefit of Scholar Cards and 51 students got the Social Cards.

The Book Bank facility is given to the deserving students of poor economic background every year. 25 Students took the benefit of this facility.

INFLIBNET N-LIST Campaign

The Project entitled “National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-List) provide access to e-recourses for students, and faculty members of the College. More than 10,000 e-books, 6000+ e-journals and other databases are freely available for the students by using ID and password provided by the Library. The College library had launch an ID and Password campaign for creating members for N-list usage from 15th July till 24th July 2015, and again from 17th to 29th August 2015. Wide publicity was given to the campaign using posters and sending e-mail to the students. 

The Library Book Exhibition

The library book exhibition on the theme “Livable Planet Earth” and , was conducted from 12th to 14th August 2015 in the library. All the documents related to the topic were displayed at the exhibition.

The library has also conducted book exhibition by book vendors such as Broadway Book Centre, Bootmate, and St. Joseph Book Distributors.

 

Workshop on Information Literacy

 

Mr. Milind Mhamal, College Librarian has conducted workshop for all the teachers on information literary on 13th July 2015. He demonstrated how information literacy is important in the digital environment and Information Literacy Education is a collective responsibility of all educators and information providers. The main focus of the workshop was on use of e-resources, including e-documents available at INFLIBNET N-list. The websites of open access journals, e-books, subject gateways, Government and Non-Government sources of information was demonstrated. The use of library Open Access Public Catalogue for the purpose of accessing library documents was also discussed.

 

 

New website of College Library

The new website of College library was officially launched on 28th October 2015, with the web address http://faclibrary.weebly.com .

The Library website contains various web pages such as vision and mission of the library, about library, library staff, library activities, photo gallery, Institutional Repository such as syllabus, question papers, projects, library bulletin, college bulletin, and subject wise list of documents available in the library. The website also contains knowledge portal with links to various portals, Government agencies, subject gateways, etc. The users can contact the Librarian from the contact form and also recommend the books to the library.

Dr. Fredrick Rodrigues, sfx, the College Principal, Dr. Menino Tavares, The Administrator of the College, the staff and students were present on the occasion.

 

KNOWLEDGE BAZAR

“Knowledge Bazaar” is one of the unique activity conducted by Fr. Agnel College Library from 7th to 12th December 2015, as a part of silver jubilee function.  Various library documents such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, reference books, maps, charts, photographs, posters, e-posters, coins, postal stamps, artifacts’, etc. were displayed for browsing and reading for the students, locals, students of neighboring schools. Special exhibitions of over 200 photographs on Goan Freedom Struggle were displayed with the assistance from Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa. Personal collections such as coins and postal stamps were also on display.

As a part of festival special competitions were organized for School, Higher secondary and College students.

The students visiting the knowledge Bazaar were shown special documentary films on important topics. There was a special book exhibition by Broadway Book Center, where the books were available for sale only for Rs.50/-.

Other than the college students, locals and students of eight different schools visited the Knowledge Bazaar.

Library Credit Course (2015-16)

The College Library have conducted short term course in Library & Information Science, called ‘Library Credit Programme’.  The programme consists of working in the library and learning library basics for minimum 25 hours.

Certificate Course in Library & Information Science

Third Batch (10th April 2015 to 10th August 2015)

 

Fr. Agnel College of Art & Commerce, Pilar Goa conducted Certificate Course in Library and Information Science, duly approved by Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa, from 10th April 2015 to 10th August 2015. This is the third batch of students completing this course.

 

The objective of the course is to provide an opportunity to enhance skill in library profession. The course aims to provide detailed study of Library and Information Sciences based on modern library techniques to junior level professionals/semi-professionals suitable to library and information centers, with emphasis on knowledge of latest development in library science.

27 Students from all over Goa with the minimum qualification of 12th standard were admitted for the course. Regular classes were held for the students from 10th April till 15th June 2015 from 02.30 p.m. to 05.00 p.m. After the examination, the students were sent for the one month compulsory on-job-training in the reputed libraries of Goa.

The visiting faculties for the course were Mr. Carlos Fernandes, Curator, Goa State Central Library; Mr. Milind Mhamal, College Librarian, Fr. Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Pilar; Mr. Sandesh Dessai, College Librarian, Goa College of Engineering, Ponda; Ms. Swati Mhamal, Visiting faculty, Department of Library & Information Science, Goa University; Mr. Keshav Dhuri, Assistant Librarian, Goa University; Mr. Prashant Phadte, Assistant Librarian, Goa University; and Ms. Melisa Rodrigues, Assistant Professor, Fr. Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Pilar Goa.

Mr. Milind Mhamal, College Librarian was the Co-ordinator of the course.

Fourth Batch (18th April 2016 to 18th August 2016)

The fourth batch of Certificate Course in Library & Information will start from 18th April 2016. The old curriculum for the course was modified and new concepts were introduced course structure.

GOA STATE BEST LIBRARIAN AWARD

Mr. Milind Mhamal, College Librarian was awarded Goa State Best Librarian Award, by Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa on 23rd April 2015. Mr. Milind Mhamal, is the first recipient of the award initiated by Government of Goa.

 

Talk on “Maximum use of Library Collection”

 

Mr. Milind Mhamal was invited to speak on “Maximum use of Library Collection”, by the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Goa on 17th April 2015. The programme was conducted for all the Village Librarians of Goa.

 

Mr. Milind Mhamal, Book Release

 

The book titled Gomantakiya Marathi Granthanchi Grantha Suchi, was published on 14th July 2015, Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji Goa. The book is published by Directorate of Official Language, Government of Goa.

The book is about the Bibliography of books written by Goan Authors in Marathi Language from beginning till December 2013. The bibliographic details of each book such as author, title, subject, publisher, edition and other details are recorded in the book. The book is a research work of 4 years, and consists of 617 printed pages, which include 40 pages of preface by the author, bibliographic details of book, details of authors, list of periodicals published till date, awards won by the Goan authors, with author and subject index.  

 

Mr. Milind Mhamal, Participation in symposium

 

A symposium on the topic of ‘Social Impact of Editorials’, organised by Directorate of Official Language, Government of Goa, was held at Institute Menezes Braganza on 14th July 2015. Mr. Milind Mhamal participated in the panel discussion along with Prakash Kamat, Paresh Prabhu, Prasad Shahapurkar, Sandesh Prabhudessai and Suresh Valve. The panel discuss about the relevance of newspapers, the influence of the electronic and social media, and impact of editorials in the social sphere.

 

 

Guest faculty at Goa University

 

Mr. Milind Mhamal, is invited as the Guest faculty for the Department of Library and Information Science, Goa University for the Masters and Bachelors degree programme.

 

 

Attended INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PUBLISHING NEXT

 

Mr. Milind Mhamal, Attended International Conference on Publishing, held on 11-12 September 2015, at Panaji Goa. The conference was organized to bring together everyone associated with publishing, with different interest in publishing and in facilitating a dialogue on the various aspects of publishing in its present and future forms.
